Whether it’s a Wedding, a Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah, or anything else, it will likely be one of the most important days of your life. After the day is over, the photographs and memories are all that remain. You’re going to want to remember it for the rest of your life and, I don’t know about you, but 5-10 years down the road I rely on photographs to remind me of events in my life. As time goes on, without the photographs, the details and moments that made it so special, slowly fade.
If you’re not happy with the photography, will you regret not making it a bigger priority? I honestly feel the photographer should be considered one of the most important aspects to event planning.

Powell Event Photography
My name is Jim Powell and I’m a New Jersey based event photographer. I shoot weddings, engagement parties, Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs, birthdays, and any other parties or events that people want to capture. And when I’ve got time I like to volunteer my services to some non-profit organizations. The people who run Non-Profits put a lot of their time, energy, and money into various causes, and it’s always nice to be able to help them out when they need it.
No matter what kind of event I’m shooting, it’s something I really love. I’ve always considered myself a “people person”, and I’ve found that sitting in a cubicle working day-in, and day-out with the same dozen or so people, just doesn’t suit me. I’d much rather be working in new places, with new people, with an opportunity to capture a day that will be remembered for a lifetime, and I’m always honored when someone chooses me to help capture the memories for them.
I consider myself a photojournalistic event photographer. Meaning, I like to step back and catch the moments that happen naturally. I don’t pose or set up interactions, I just use my experience to anticipate the moments that are there to be captured. Of course the formal pictures and hug and smile pictures are always something I’m happy to do for you, but I try to keep that portion of the day as short as possible so everyone can just relax and have a good time.
I generally shoot in New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Delaware, but travel is one of my biggest passions in life so I’m always willing to shoot anywhere else around the country, and even internationally. I highly encourage people to consider destination weddings because the scenery is typically far more beautiful, and believe it or not, it’s usually a lot cheaper too!
