A pillar in the Elgin community. Top notch cakes and donuts. UFO's and mouse ears are a must try. Home made coffee cake are very good. Highly recommend this bakery.

Great place to order a special cake here! Friendly people working here and they take pride in their work. We always get compliments on their delicious cakes! Last time we got the yellow cake with real strawberries! What a great combo for summer!

I love their buttercream frosting--so yummy! It's a nice change from the artificial frosting you'll get on a grocery store cake. The cake itself is moist and flavorful. They also made a beautiful Elsa cake for my daughter's Frozen birthday party. For the quality, they are very reasonably priced. *Update* Still my preferred bakery for all occasions!

Herb's cakes are delicious! They made me 2 beautiful cakes for my sons 1st birthday! I would definitely recommend!

They have a big variety of designs for birthday cakes. The cake we chose was chocolate with Bavarian cream and it was delicious. We will definitely be back to order again.

Fresh, delicious homemade baked goods. Taste as good as they look. Butter cookies are yummy as well as coffee cakes. Not many bakeries in the area, so Herb's is a real gem

Great local bakery. Come early for the widest selection but everything is just wonderful. We have ordered cakes from them for three parties and all were outstanding.

Tiny lil bakery, but they do not fail. We tried a first time, it has been on our list to try and glad we finally did. We bought some donuts, and sm coffee cakes everything was so fresh and delicious. We can't wait to go back and try the Kringle and breads.

I ordered a Dutch Apple pie for Thanksgiving which was not very good. It did not have enough apples or crumble on top and the filling was very runny. When we cut into it we thought it was undercooked but it was just the filling which was very runny. At least the taste was good

This is my favorite little bakery in Elgin. We live out of state and I make sure to stop by every time we visit so I can get a box of the thumb print cookies. Kids loved the cupcakes, and we also had some great donuts. Everyone should give this place a try.

We hired Herb's bakery for our wedding cake and cupcakes, and they did a fantastic job! We were able to pick up a cake tasting prior to ordering, which had all of the different flavor combinations for us to try. Our favorite was the white cake with raspberry filling! By the end of the night, we barely had any left over cupcakes! I am not a huge cake person, but when my husband and I cut the cake, I wanted to keep eating - it was so good! I highly recommend them!

Our family has been going to Herb's bakery since the 60's on East Chicago Street followed by current location on Larkin. All our birthday and anniversary cakes have been designed by Herb's. Outstanding workmanship and Creativity. They have the best butter cookies in 2 sizes and coffee cakes.

While they have many items, my favorite baked item that Herbs has is their pretzel roll. It is a bit crispy on the outside and has a very soft pretzel middle. They have pretzel balls, sticks & covered in cheese. They may have others, but I have had all 3 of them and they are amazing treats! They sell out early. They open @ 0600AM and I have had the best luck getting their when they open. The other items I have had their have been good to ok. For me and my family, its all about Herbs pretzels!

Let me start by saying. I love a good donut and know a good one when I taste it. If you want the best donuts in town, be sure to make a trip to Herb's. I stopped by there recently and what a surprise. I've been driving past there for years. I can't believe I've been sleeping on them. I was going to another donut shop that's open 24 hours but they have become hit or miss so glad I found Herb's that's my new go to for donuts.

They don't have a large selection but what they have is quality and fresh. You have to go early they will run out. I got there at 1PM and was too late, they were wiped out of donuts. They are closed on Sunday and Monday and close early on Saturday. I can't comment on their cakes or cupcakes as I haven't tried them so until then, I'm the best baker of cakes and cupcakes;.

I will say that the cupcakes are a little pricey for me but then again for some reason cupcakes are usually pricey at bakeries. Maybe I think that because I'm not a big cupcake fan. For now, I will be their best donut customer.

My husband and I decided to postpone our big wedding celebration until 2021 due to COVID, but got married with our immediate family members this past October. We wanted to have a small cake to cut into and individually wrapped cupcakes for our family to take home with them. We could not have been happier with how our cakes turned out! Herb's accommodated our request for individually wrapped cupcakes, cake iced exactly as I hoped, delivered everything to our ceremony, and tasted incredible! We can't wait for our "part 2" wedding cake in 2021. Thank you Herbs!

This is such a cute little place. lots of yummy treats to choose from. its a little expensive, but its the quality that counts. hand made munchies take time, and care! yummy! i will definitely be coming back especially since i live down the street!

There is no truer bakery in all the land! Herb's is the quintessential old school bakery. They haven't sold out, they haven't moved, and they love the Elgin community. Their social media proves this, they are so supportive and they post like they are friends with never customer that visits their storefront. We love everything pretzel at Herb's!

They are Bavarian with the exact amount of salt you need to eat the pretzel without anything else. I also love their sprinkle thumbprint cookies. Simple, delicious! We just discovered their muffins, we were very pleased. I've never done a cake there, but I do want to give them a try because the workers are SO great. The customer service is top notch, so I hope locals, and those from the bordering suburbs, will give Herb's a try. Show up early if you want a pretzel, they sell out quickly, and load up on other bakery goodies while you are there!

This is my boyfriends place to get his favorite donuts. I've never been here. But I did pre order to get his maple nut danishes today since they were out yesterday. I went after work and got there at 7:20am and they were sold out of them. They open at 6. When I picked them up today, I decided to try their cheese danish and cinnamon danish. When I got home, and I cut the cheese danish in half, I saw there was a hair in the middle, right where I was cutting it.

It grossed me out. It was long, black and thicker like it was from a beard. I'll let my boyfriend continue to eat his favorite donuts from here. That hair just ruined it for me. For a place that has a lot of high reviews from local people, I'm questioning if they even enforce beard nets when preparing and making these pastries. All the people there are nice and the presentation of the box is all there but unfortunately that's where the star goes to. I wanted to go back to try the other pastries. Especially the pretzel but I'm too scared now lol

Herbs bakery is by far the best bakery I've ever been to. I've been going there since I was little! They have the best cookies, cakes, and staff! My most recent order was a beautiful unicorn birthday cake and a ton of their amazing thumbprint cookies. Thank you herbs for always being the best!

I saw an ad on Facebook for their gorgeous Fourth of July bouquet cookies. I went and got 4. It was busy. The people before me got their order in boxes. My girl put mine in a wax bag. The nice gentleman ahead of me in line looked back at me and said to his girl ringing him up, "here's five dollars to pay for hers". I saw the two girls at the register talking about it.

They never applied the five dollars to my order. The old man walked out thinking he paid it forward and he really didn't. I was confused. I got home and all four cookies were broken and smashed up. With that amount of decoration they should've gone in a box. I was really frustrated with this visit. The old man said to me when we were walking out, "I know that didn't cover all of it, but I tried". I didn't have the heart to tell him what happened.

Herb's Bakery is the best in the area. I have been a customer for years. The donuts are amazing; crunch donut is the very best, so addicting. Get up early on Saturday; they go fast! The cakes are lovely, they taste amazing and are decorated so beautifully. A great family-owned business in Elgin, they do an excellent job providing baked goods to the community.

Wow. A local small bakery that is amazing! What can I say, always friendly, always fresh. I wish they had carrot cake but hey thats my addition. Everything I have had from the doughnuts to the cakes are phenomenal. Will return early and often.

I have been going to Herb's for 30+ years they have wonderful cakes, Donuts, muffins, cookies, Kringle's, danish, thumbprints, brownies, cupcakes, and so much more! They can do lots of custom stuff too everything is yummy!

Got donuts from Herbs the other day - what a treat. Much better than the typical Boston chain donuts. However, I still had to get coffee from the DD. Best of both worlds! Donuts from Herbs, and my favorite brew. I had time on my hands that morning.

When our favorite bakery closed down, we tried Herb's for my son's birthday cake. We were so beyond disappointed. We asked for a Star Wars themed cake and while it had a picture on it, the colors were all wrong for Star Wars and it looks like an amateur did all the piping. Everyone knows light sabers are blue and red, not a weird orange and brown.

Even the piping along the top edge of the cake was crooked. The flavors were merely ok. For what we got from a bakery that supposedly has a ton of experience, we could have gone to the grocery and gotten better. We will most definitely not be back and our hunt for a fantastic bakery continues.

Don't get your wedding cake here unless you want to triple check on accuracy of design. We used a vendor that uses Herb's when booking with them for your wedding. I was not concerned at all with Herb's reputation and years of experience. Wish I had been more concerned. I had talked to them about a week or so prior to the wedding as well to add a sweets table to our day and I wanted to surprise my groom with a cake. (those both went great and tasted amazing).

When we arrived at our venue for a sneak peak, I see a peach and cream colored cake with peach flowers atop of it. Our cake was suppose to be brown tree rings (like our centerpieces) with burnt orange hydrangeas (artificial that we were fine with). Our colors were burnt orange and navy. not peach. I was beyond disappointed by our cake. We now have pictures with this cake that I hated. If you do use Herb's just be sure to triple check your design choice. They do not verify it unless you ask, I sadly found out the hard way.

Had Herb's bakery not been apart of our wedding package with Randall Oaks Golf Club, we would not have known about them, Thank goodness they were! They were very easy to communicate with and very helpful. I sent them pictures of the cake I loved and they recreated it PERFECTLY! We ended up doing a fake cake with a real top tier so we could have 4 different kinds of cake!

Chocolate with Fudge filling, Marble with Strawberry preserve filling, Red Velvet with Cream Cheese filling and a DELICIOUS cheesecake! They were so AMAZING! Our guest loved having so many choices, they all went very quickly. I would most definitely use them again.

Herb's for the win again! I procrastinated on an order for my son's 4th Birthday, but Herb's was able to still come through! I gave them some examples of what we wanted, and went over details with the staff via email and phone. Everything was ready on time, looked great and tasted amazing!
